What Are Invisalign Aligners?

Invisalign is a modern treatment which involve the use of clear, removable aligners to help straighten and realign your teeth. They can get similar results to traditional wire braces, but without the need for metal braces, regular tightening and the numerous appointments that are involved. The provide great results in a minimally intrusive way, and the clear aligners mean they’re practically invisible.

Why choose Invisalign braces?

Invisalign is a fantastic treatment for a range of mild to moderate corrections, including mild gaps, dental drift, crooked teeth, misalignment and any overlapping teeth. In cases of more complicated alignment issues, it may not be the best treatment for you, but we will be able to discuss the most appropriate treatment during your appointment.

What does Invisalign feel like?

It normally takes people a little time to get used to the treatment, with most feeling a light pressure and the aligners as the gradually reposition their teeth. In some cases people may notice that their speech is slightly affected as they get used to the retainers. It’s unlikely that people experience any pain, but we will discuss these potential scenarios with you during your consultation.

How is Invisalign made?

Invisalign aligners are custom made for each individual. At your initial consultation, a 3D digital image is taken of your teeth. This is used to create a custom treatment plan for you, and you will see how your teeth with gradually realign throughout the process. The aligners are made for you, and you will regularly replace them with a new one as you progress through your treatment plan.

How do I maintain the aligners?

Once we have completed your scans and the aligners are created, they will need to be well maintained to keep them in good condition. Fortunately, the maintenance process is fairly simple. The aligners should be removed when eating and drinking to prevent them from becoming stained or damaged. After you’ve eaten, clean the aligners gently with a toothbrush after each meal to ensure they remain clean. You should also regularly brush and floss after eating to prevent any food from being lodger in the aligners.

Will Invisalign affect my lifestyle?

One of the main benefits of Invisalign is how little impact the treatment has on your life and your appearance. Apart from the small amount of maintenance required to keep them clean, and removing them when eating and drinking, wearing the aligners should have very little impact on your day-to-day life. They are almost invisible when wearing them and in many cases people will forget they are even wearing them. The aligners can also be removed for short periods of time if required, but they need to be in place for at least 20 hours per day to be effective.
